The South Caldwell Band Program is comprised of three separate concert ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. The ensembles meet year round (fall & spring semester) for a full 90 minute block, and all three ensembles give 4 full length performance throughout the year (fall, winter, MPA, spring). Students are auditioned annually for ensemble & chair placement. These ensembles are the cornerstone for success of the entire program. In these ensemble rehearsals, the groundwork is laid for all things music, including reading skills, vocabulary, theory, ear training, singing, expression, interpretation, and much much more.
In addition to our concert ensembles, students have the opportunity to join the award winning Spartan Regiment, our marching band. The group averages 120-150 members yearly, and performs across the state and beyond at Football games, Competitions, Parades, and Civic Events.
Through each concert ensemble, the band program is able to offer 3 Jazz Bands: Jazz Band 1 (Wind Ensemble), Jazz Band 2 (Symphonic Band), and Jazz Band 3 (Concert Band). Our Jazz Bands give one full length performance at the end of each school year and perform at various events, dances, and semi-formal occassions.
Winter Guard & Indoor Percussion are offered during the winter months as a means of challenging our auxillary students in the pageantry arts. Winter Guard performs in the CWEA circuit with other North Carolina and South Carolina schools. Indoor Percussion perfroms locally and focuses on developing technique and musician through the percussion ensemble experience.
In addition to our large ensembles, all students in the South Caldwell High School Band participate in at least one chamber ensemble. Chamber (or small) ensembles represent an opportunity for students to take leadership on all aspects of the musical process; planning, rehearsal, musicality, and performance. Chamber ensembles perform regularly throughout the school year.
