The greatest thing you can do as a parent of a high school band student/musician is to GET INVOLVED in your child's music education.  Attend their events, volunteer to help in the band parent organization, support the music program as a whole.

Ask to listen to him/her play their instrument, ask them what they like about music, how does it make them feel, what are they learning.

You may be surprised to know that they aren't just learning how to become better musicians, they are also becoming better human beings.
